IP Converter YT-930 Rotork YTC
The YT-930 is the intrinsically safe I/P converter in the Rotork YTC range — an Ex ia IIC T5/T6 Gb unit in a 1.6 kg aluminium body that runs from a barrier on as little as 6.0 V, converting 4-20 mA into a proportional pneumatic output.

Technical Description
The YT-930 is the intrinsically safe I/P converter in the Rotork YTC range. Where a hazardous area is protected by energy limitation rather than by containment — a zener or galvanic barrier in the marshalling cabinet, light field wiring, live maintenance permitted — the YT-930 is the model that fits that philosophy. It is certified ATEX and IECEx Ex ia IIC T5/T6 Gb, Ex ia IIIC T100 °C/T85 °C Db to IP66, and it is also supplied as a plain non-explosion unit for safe areas.
The practical consequence of the Ex ia design is a very small voltage budget: the converter needs a minimum of 6.0 V at 4 mA and no more than 7.2 V at 20 mA, which is what allows it to sit behind a barrier on a long loop and still work with most conventional controllers. It weighs 1.6 kg in an aluminium diecast housing, so it can be bracket-mounted on the actuator yoke without a support.
How the YT-930 differs from the YT-940
These two converters share their signal conversion entirely. Both take 4~20 mA DC, both offer the same four output ranges, both consume below 2 LPM and pass 70 LPM at 0.14 MPa supply, and both hold ±0.5% F.S. linearity and hysteresis. What separates them is how they are made safe, and how much environment they will take:
- Protection concept. The YT-930 is intrinsically safe (Ex ia) — the energy in the loop is limited so it cannot ignite. The YT-940 uses a flameproof enclosure instead, containing an internal ignition rather than preventing one. That decides which one your area classification and wiring practice will accept; they are not interchangeable.
- Ingress rating. YT-930 is IP66. The YT-940 adds Type 4X (FM) to IP66.
- Temperature. YT-930 operates -30 to 85 °C; the YT-940 runs from -40 °C. Their explosion-proof ambient limits differ too — the YT-930 is restricted to -40 to 60 °C at T5 and -40 to 40 °C at T6.
- Weight and connections. YT-930: 1.6 kg, (N)PT 1/4 air, PF 1/2 conduit. YT-940: 2.5 kg with the heavier flameproof casting, Rc 1/4 or 1/4 NPT air, G 1/2 conduit.
Output pressure ranges are identical on the two models, so do not choose between them on that basis.

Order options cover explosion protection (non-explosion or ATEX/IECEx), the four output ranges, conduit and air connection as G1/2-PT1/4 or G1/2-NPT1/4, a 420 mA feedback signal, and an output gauge of 00.2 or 0~0.4 MPa. A YT-200 air filter regulator mounts directly to the body, with no pneumatic piping between them.
Typical application
Intrinsic safety is the usual protection concept on biogas plants and on the wellhead and tank-farm areas of oil & gas installations, where the field wiring is long, the area is Zone 1 or Zone 2, and technicians need to be able to open an instrument for calibration without a hot-work permit. In those areas the YT-930 is the converter we quote to drive a pneumatic control valve positioner, or to feed a diaphragm actuator directly on a slow modulating duty — digester gas flow control, flare header pressure, a tank blanketing regulator.
It is equally at home in a safe-area retrofit as the non-explosion version, converting the 4~20 mA output of a new DCS into a pneumatic signal for legacy pneumatic field equipment that would otherwise have to be replaced. Zero and span are set by dial, direct or reverse action is a switch, and the modularised internals make field maintenance a matter of swapping a sub-assembly rather than the whole unit.
