Almost nobody starts with a part number. An engineer with a baghouse that has stopped cleaning itself, or a dyeing machine that will not hold its ramp, is looking for the answer to a process problem — the model code comes later, and often from us. These six pages are written for that first search.
Each one sets out what the sector actually asks of its instrumentation, the control problems that recur in it, the equipment from our catalogue that suits those problems and the reason it suits them, and the environmental and certification constraints that change the specification. Where a figure is not something we can stand behind, the page states the principle rather than inventing a number.

In oil and gas and in biogas the answer is usually yes, and it decides everything downstream of it. An intrinsically safe device such as the YT-930 needs a certified barrier and an IS loop; a flameproof one such as the YT-940 needs certified glands and sealed conduit. They are not interchangeable at the point of installation, so the protection concept is settled before the model code is.
Cement dust, dyehouse chemistry, coastal salt and sulphide-bearing condensate all attack a coated aluminium housing from the outside in. Uncoated stainless steel 316 bodies — the YT-1050 and YT-3350 — remove that path rather than delaying it. Inland, indoors and dry, coated aluminium is lighter, cheaper and entirely adequate.
More pneumatic devices fail on air quality than on anything else. Water, oil and particulate carried down a header end up in a pilot relay or behind a pulse-valve diaphragm. A 5-micron filter regulator at the device is the fix — the YT-200 for a single unit, the YT-220 where Rc 1/2 ports are needed to pass the flow.
