Rotork YTC YT-1000L Linear Electro Pneumatic Positioner

The YT-1000L is the sliding-stem positioner in the YT-1000 family. Its feedback is taken through a lever and a stroke pin that follow the valve stem directly, so travel is read as a linear distance — 10 to 150 mm — and the lever itself is a selected part, ordered in one of four bands (1040, 3070, 60100 or 100150 mm) to suit the valve it will sit on. That is the first thing to get right when specifying one: a lever sized for the wrong travel costs you resolution across the whole stroke.

Everything else is standard YT-1000: a 4 to 20 mA DC input at 250 ± 15 Ω impedance, a 0.14 to 0.7 MPa (1.4 to 7 bar) supply, an IP66 aluminium diecast housing weighing 2.7 kg, direct or reverse action and full or half split range set by simple adjustment, and an auto/manual switch that lets air be put straight to the actuator for troubleshooting. Resonance is absent between 5 and 200 Hz.

How the YT-1000L differs from the YT-1000R and YT-1050

All three run the same torque-motor and pilot-relay core and share their performance figures. The choice between them is about what the positioner is bolted to, and what the atmosphere around it is like.

• YT-1000R — the rotary version. Feedback comes off a shaft through a 0 to 90° arc instead of a lever arm, and its lever part numbers are threaded arms (M6 × 34L, M6 × 63L, M8 × 34L, M8 × 63L) or a NAMUR coupling, not stroke bands in millimetres. It also offers a dome cover and external limit-switch and transmitter options that the YT-1000L does not, and weighs 2.8 kg. Fit it to butterfly, ball and plug valves.
• YT-1050 — the stainless steel 316 version, available in either motion type, at 5.71 kg. Choose it for corrosive or washdown environments; it carries fewer regional hazardous-area approvals and does not offer the internal feedback options.

Within the YT-1000L itself the internal option list is short and specific: 4 to 20 mA position feedback (smart type), with or without an LCD. Note that the internal feedback option, high/low temperature versions and the smart options require a non-explosion-proof positioner; on a certified unit these have to be external.

Hazardous-area codes available on the YT-1000L include ATEX/IECEx/TS/KCs, CSA and FM, KCs with NEPSI, KCs intrinsic safety and TIIS.

Typical application

The classic YT-1000L duty in the plants we supply is a globe control valve on a spring-and-diaphragm actuator — the workhorse of steam, water and process-liquid throttling. In a sugar mill that means juice heater and evaporator steam control, imbibition water, and syrup and molasses flow, where the valve is a 1 in to 4 in globe with 20 to 50 mm of travel and the 30~70 mm lever is normally the right pick. In textile dyeing and finishing, it is thermic-fluid and steam control on the same class of valve.

Because the YT-1000L is a mechanical-feedback analogue positioner with no calibration menu, it suits sites that maintain their own instruments: zero and span are internal dials with locking screws, and direct/reverse action changes without parts. Feed it through a YT-200 air filter regulator — the 5-micron element is what keeps mill-scale and oil carry-over out of the nozzle. Where the control signal originates as a pneumatic one, or the loop must stay pneumatic, pair it instead with a YT-930 I/P converter.
