Rotork YTC YT-1050 Linear/Rotary Electro Pneumatic Positioner

The YT-1050 is the stainless steel 316 member of the YT-1000 family. Where the YT-1000L and YT-1000R are aluminium diecastings, the YT-1050 enclosure is machined from 316, which is why it weighs 5.71 kg against their 2.7 and 2.8 kg, and why it is the model to specify when the positioner will spend its life in salt spray, chemical mist, frequent washdown or a corrosive process atmosphere. An aluminium housing in that service chalks, pits and eventually loses its cover seal; a 316 one does not.

The second thing that sets it apart is that motion type is a digit in its own model code. One YT-1050 part family covers both linear (10 to 150 mm stroke) and rotary (0 to 90°) service, selected as L or R at the point of order, with the matching lever kit — stroke bands from 1040 to 100150 mm for linear, threaded arms or NAMUR for rotary.

How the YT-1050 differs from the YT-1000L and YT-1000R

Performance is common across the three: 4 to 20 mA DC input at 250 ± 15 Ω, 0.14 to 0.7 MPa supply, IP66, 2.5 LPM air consumption and 80 LPM flow capacity at 0.14 MPa, and the same linearity, hysteresis, sensitivity and repeatability figures. The trade you make by moving to stainless is fewer options, not less accuracy.

So: choose the YT-1050 for the metallurgy. If the installation also needs an integral position transmitter, limit switches or one of the North American or Japanese certifications, that combination is only available on the aluminium bodies, and the transmitter or switch has to be an external unit alongside the YT-1050.

Specification

Note the single conduit-and-air combination: G 1/2 conduit with NPT 1/4 air. Unlike the aluminium models there is no G 1/4, PT 1/4, M20 or NPT 1/2 variant, so allow for adapters if the site standard is different.

Typical application

The YT-1050 is the positioner we quote for coastal and marine-influenced installations — Karachi and Port Qasim sites where a salt-laden sea breeze reaches the plant every day — and for the wet ends of process plant. In sugar production that means the lime and sulphitation station, and the milling floor where cane juice and wash water get everywhere. In biogas it is the digester and scrubber area, where hydrogen sulphide and condensate attack aluminium hardware quickly. In textile finishing it is the dyehouse, where the whole area is washed down and the air carries acid and caustic vapour.

Specify it on the same valve types you would give a YT-1000L or YT-1000R — the L or R suffix decides which — and mount it with stainless bracketry and fasteners so the enclosure is not undone by a carbon-steel bolt. Pair it with a stainless filter regulator (the YT-205 or YT-225 in the YTC range) rather than the aluminium YT-200 if the regulator will share the same exposure.
